Sweating the details

bought a new door

Don't worry too much about that last post. That was the post-traumatic stress talking. The next day I felt much better. Especially when I found out that buying a brand new pre-hung door was so cheap and look better than the old door.

I picked up a new door from Lowe's last week. A nice one with a full, 15-lite glass front. I had a much easier time installing the door last Sunday. Everything was much more chill. I took my time and figured out exactly what I needed. And I was just about ready to drop the door in when I realized the door I bought was too big. Doh!

Now I've learned that they don't even have the 30" wide door I need in stock. I would have to order it custom. And that will take 2 weeks to arrive. 2 more weeks with a plywood back door. Sigh.

I think I might just settle for an uglier door. They have slightly uglier 30" doors in stock at Home Depot. and It would be about half the price. I'm so tired of making decisions.

New Back Door

new door

Here's a photo of my new backdoor Greg helped me put up yesterday!

I'm pretty miserably depressed today. I took off on Friday and had a 3-day weekend. I worked on the house all three days but still didn't get much done at all. Correction: I killed myself for three days and have nothing to show for it. Including a huge cluster@#$%! with my back door on Sunday. Greg was kind enough to lend his backdoor expertise and give me a hand yesterday but it just wasn't enough. Everything about how it was put together and how to fix it was completely mind bending. We worked on it all day and all night. Made a trip to Home Depot. And at about 9:30 that night when we were almost finished I realized that I forgot a piece of the door at the bottom and so the frame we built was too short to work. So I just said fuck it, covered up the hole with scrap plywood, and called it a day.
